Privacy Policy
What we collect, and what we don't.
Japan SIM Guide is a small, single-author site. The short version is: we don't collect personal information about you, we use anonymized analytics to understand how visitors use the site, and some of the links here are affiliate links. The longer version follows.
Section 01
What we collect.
When you visit this site, we collect only the information needed to understand traffic patterns and improve the content:
- Pages you visit and how long you spend on them
- The page that referred you (e.g. a Google search result)
- General location at the country or region level
- Device type, browser, and screen size
We do not collect your name, email address, IP address (in a personally-identifiable way), or any other information that could be used to identify you, unless you explicitly send it to us — for example, by emailing us.
Section 02
Analytics and tracking tools.
This site uses the following tools to measure traffic. Each of these processes data according to its own privacy policy, which you can read at the providers' websites:
Google Tag Manager
We use Google Tag Manager to deploy and manage analytics scripts. Google Tag Manager itself does not collect personal data, but it may load other tools that do — see below.
Google Analytics (where deployed)
Where Google Analytics is active, it may set cookies and collect anonymized usage data — pages viewed, session duration, approximate location. We do not pass any personal identifiers to Google Analytics. Google's privacy practices are documented at policies.google.com/privacy.
Cloudflare Web Analytics
This site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which provides built-in analytics that operate without cookies and without collecting personal data. Cloudflare's privacy practices are documented at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
You can block any of these tools using browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger, or by enabling tracking protection in your browser. The site will continue to work normally.
Section 03
Affiliate links.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning if you click one and sign up for a service or buy a product, the provider may pay us a small commission. This does not change the price you pay, and it does not change our editorial recommendations — see our About page for more on how we handle this.
When you click an affiliate link, you are taken to the affiliate partner's website. That partner may set its own cookies on your device, log your visit, and track whether you complete a sign-up. We do not control what happens on the partner's website — please refer to each partner's privacy policy for details.
Affiliate partners we may link to include (but are not limited to): LINEMO, povo, Rakuten Mobile, ahamo, Mobal, Sakura Mobile, Airalo, Ubigi, Saily, Nomad, and Holafly.
Section 04
Email and direct contact.
If you email us at hello@japansimguide.com, we will receive the email address you send from and the contents of your message. We use this only to respond to you. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share your email with anyone.
We do not currently operate a newsletter, comments section, or user account system. If we add one in the future, this page will be updated to describe what we collect and why.
Section 05
Your rights.
If you are in the EU/EEA, the UK, or California, applicable laws (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA) give you certain rights over personal data we hold about you. Because we deliberately collect as little personal data as possible, the practical answer to most requests is that we don't hold any data about you specifically.
That said, if you would like to:
- Ask what data, if any, we have about you
- Ask us to delete what we may have
- Opt out of having your visit measured by any of the analytics tools above

Section 06
Children.
This site is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
Section 07
Updates to this policy.
If we change this policy in a meaningful way — for example, by adding a new analytics tool or affiliate program — we will update this page and the "last updated" date at the top. Material changes will be noted at the top of the page for at least 30 days.
